Variant Images is a Shopify app operated by Variant Images. This page explains which data the app accesses, what it stores and how data is deleted.

Data we access

  • Product data: product titles, options, variants and media. It is read and updated only to assign images to colours and to set the variants' featured image.
  • Store information: the shop domain and the access token Shopify issues to the app.
  • The app does not access your store's customers, orders or payment details, and does not request permission for them.

Data we store

  • Image assignments are kept in product metafields inside your store, not on our servers.
  • Our servers hold only the Shopify session record (shop domain, access token, granted scopes) and bulk job records (product title, product ID and the outcome).
  • If you enter your own Gemini API key on the Settings page, it is stored encrypted, used only for your own AI calls and deleted when you uninstall the app.
  • The storefront script sets no cookies, does not track visitors and sends no data to our servers.

Sharing

  • Your data is not sold and is not used for advertising. It is processed only on the hosting infrastructure the app runs on.
  • Paid plan charges are collected by Shopify; we never receive your card details.
  • When you use AI assignment, the product's title, colour options and images are sent to Google's Gemini API to be classified. If you do not use this feature, nothing is sent to Google.

Retention and deletion

  • When you uninstall the app, your session record and bulk job records are deleted.
  • When Shopify's shop data erasure request arrives (48 hours after uninstalling), any remaining records for your store are deleted.
  • Assignments in product metafields stay in your store and are removed by Shopify together with the app; the variants' featured images are left as they are.

Your rights

  • You can write to us to request a copy or the deletion of the data we hold. Because the app stores no customer data, customer data requests have nothing to return or erase.
